GMAG Level 2 Data Processing History
This web page contains significant dates for changes in the software and mastercdfs that are used to create THEMIS Level 2 files for the GMAG (Ground Magnetometer) instruments.
Dates for reprocessing of GMAG L2 files are included.

| 2006-10-18: | UCLA processing worked out. First complete processing set. |
| 2006-12-12: | UCLA GMAG regeneration due to change in master CDF. |
| 2007-05-30: | UCLA GMAG reprocessing due to new calibration files. |
| 2011-09: | UCLA gmags BMLS, PINE, HOTS reprocessed due to new calibration files. |
| 2011-11: | AUTUMN gmag REDR reprocessed due to change in mastercdf. |
| 2012-05: | DTU and TGO gmags reprocessed due to mastercdf and coordinate system changes. |
| 2015-11: | An error was found with the MACCS GMAG data. The time resolution is 0.5 s, however, the values of milliseconds were all 000 (they should alternate with each other (000, 500, 000, 500,....). The processing code was found to truncate the milliseconds. This bug was corrected and all of the MACCS data from 2007 to present were reprocessed. |
| 2017-08: | The GMAG file processing of RMD files to L2 data was running on an old OS system (Solaris). To reduce the risk of a failure we ported the original code to a faster, newer, and more reliable OS. In the process of porting, improvements were made to remove spikes and make the code more easily maintained. |
| 2017-09: | We reprocessed all L2 ASCII and CDF files originating from RMD files. The new L2 CDF files are compressed. |
| 2026-02: | All sites mastercdf and data CDFs have had their metadata updated so coordinates are listed as HEZ instead of HDZ. HTTP links were updated so point to active websites. Spase Resource IDs and DOIs have also been updated where available. Format was adjusted for attributes such as station latitude and longitude. Converted text in mastercdfs and data CDFs for a subset of sites to UTF-8 format. |
