GBO_ASI_BROWSER.HELP 2007-03-07 (Harald Frey, hfrey@ssl.berkeley.edu) This interface is intended to allow the quick browsing through the available data from the THEMIS GBO all-sky imagers. There are data from 2006-01-01 to about two days before the time you are actually running it. First select a particular day by either typing it into the "Select Date" window, or by using the Calendar option. Then select either "Summary", "Keogram", or "Average" and press "Start". The option "Summary" shows a pre-created gif-image for that particular day with the full hours running left to right, and the 20 THEMIS GBO stations running from top to bottom with the westernmost station on top and the easternmost station at the bottom. A small image is shown if for a particular hour there are data from that station. The very latest plots are generally made from thumbnail images that were transmitted from the stations in real-time. A "T" at the very right of the image identifies the small images as coming from thumbnail data. If there is no "T" then the images come from full-resolution images. Starting in January 2007 the real-time transmitted thumbnails are no real all-sky images anymore but rather rasters of the original images into a square geomagnetic grid. The "Keogram" option will show daily keograms that will present slightly more detail about the aurora then the thumbnails. The "Average" option will show a series of images that were created by averaging full-resolution images for a minute at the GBO site and transmitted, one per hour with only a short delay. These images were intended for engineering purposes to allow good assessment of the camera and observing conditions e.g clear skies, clouds, or snow on the dome. By clicking on either of the small images or a particular part of the keogram will show images for that hour in one-minute time steps. Clicking on one of these images will get the user one more level down to images at 3-6 seconds resolution. The top option in "<< >>" allows the stepping forward and back in time. Clicking at any of the daily hours in the top-level display will show mosaic images for that hour. More information about the GBOs can be found under the link "Information about the THEMIS GBO stations".
